Cultural figures of the Renaissance sought to revive the ancient heritage, including the field of writing. Their aspirations in this field were embodied in the Humanist minuscule, also called Littera Antiqua.
Lower case letters of humanistic writing are inspired by a rediscovered Carolingian minuscule, which was misinterpreted like the legacy of antiquity.
Uppercase letters letters are inspired by the Roman capital.
Gradually, Littera Antiqua moved other fonts in Europe and became the most influential writing that most strongly set the tone for the subsequent development of typographic fonts.
